David, don’t you know that you got kicked out of the DNC for sharing such common-sense ideas? The people should have NO say in their leadership, that’s the meritocracy… far too obvious /s

Wait a second. This is a meme community so I assume you’re joking but… don’t you lot have paid sick leave or parental leave?

You actually don’t have any guaranteed sick leave. Some companies will give a few days to you for exclusive sick leave, some will require you to use your PTO, some (like my current) require a doctor’s note for any sick leave use, some don’t.

Now you start to understand how COVID spread so fast here.

Often times there’s no distinction between sick time and leave. So if you take a day off because your sick that’s one less day for a vacation.

Some jobs don’t even give you leave. You don’t work you don’t get paid.

That’s just so insane. How are people ok with that like, “yeah that’s fair, I want more conservatives to run my life because they’re making life harder for me and rob me of any sense of reciprocal goodwill towards society! USA USA USA!”

You’re right, and that’s IF you’re lucky enough to be granted sick leave. It’s not a legal requirement. I, for example, have none. When I’m sick I don’t get paid.

I had a long conversation with Mitch, he said he doesn’t want anyone worrying about him, he’s doing fine.

Paid parental and sick leave isn’t law there? I thought you guys had at least that one.

Often the government also pays for parental leave. Places like Australia it’s up to 26 weeks at minimum wage to help families settle in with newborns and new costs.

      Nope.

At the federal level, there’s no laws covering any paid time off for anything. Sick, vacation, holiday’s, parental, etc.

We TECHNICALLY have parental leave, but COBRA is hedged in with so many caveats it’s useless for a lot of people.

Yea, but it’s not paid (federally), and unpaid leave is only guaranteed for people that work for companies with more than 50 employees.

So, “temporarily unemployed”, basically. Right when people need income the most.

Edit: I more understand the “not in this economy” remark from Idiocracy’s intro, when the smarter couple is deciding to hold on having kids. It’s obviously a consideration around the developed world, but not really movie-worthy.
