Not really an Easter Egg, more just an interesting fact. In the movie Youth in Revolt there is a scene where the two main characters purchase a camper. The man they buy the camper from is played by Michael Collins, the third crewman of Apollo 11 who remained in orbit while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon.


This past summer my GF took a trip to Canada and took her laptop. To preempt any fuckery at the border when she came back into the US I full-disk encrypted it with Veracrypt and I burned an emergency recovery DVD at the time of encryption. She didn’t have any trouble crossing back in, but better safe than sorry.


I think his point is that this is less “news”, and more “well, duh”.


Kind of a primitive example, but in the old text-adventure Planetfall you had a robot sidekick named Floyd who, when you saved the game would occasionally comment, “oh boy, are we going to do something dangerous now?”

Every year or so some company comes along and announces some new storage technology that exponentially increases capacity or lifetime or both. Then nothing more is ever said about it and it never appears.

I was on the escalator coming up out of one of Washington D.C.'s Metro stations when the guy ahead of me reached the top, stepped to the side, then squatted down and pissed his pants.
