So I got this brutally utilitarian tea kettle/infuser set up for like $15 bucks a while back… its basically just pyrex, pretty sure, with the metal insert infuser section.
Had made a bit of instant coffee with it, and uh haha, just tore up some teabags I had had, thats like loose leaf, right?
No, no it isn’t.
Finally got proper loose leaf tea to use in it, and it is just fantastic.
Leave those teabags behind, they’re the largest dietary source of microplastics - billions in every cup!
What teabags have plastic in them?
The pyramidal silky ones do, but I really hope standard papery ones don’t
It’s amazing that anyone thought putting any sort of fibrous plastic in hot water and then drinking the water was a good idea.
They look fancy, but, what the fuck!
Recently got a Gooseneck kettle, and it’s been a game changer (for both Tea and Coffee). I can finally follow the suppliers instructions on water Temp!
I put loose tea in my french press the other day because I couldn’t find my infuser. Worked well, will do again.
I have both and use both.
It amazes me that the most obvious things seem profound on the internet, I’m beginning to believe that most of the internet is bots
Welcome to the club. I suggest browsing Yunnan Sourcing for more tea. They have a ton of variety and great prices, with tons of samplers and bogo deals. Also ketlee has some great tea in the Indian style, when you have real darjeeling for the first time it will blow your mind.
You just took the Red Pill. Of tea.

I presume the Oracle would also be pleased, if not just mostly at a quirk/affect level.
After all… its the little things that matter most.
Is an infuser set easier than just regular pouring hot water? I’ve got a mix of hibiscus, moringa, peach flower, barley, kumquat, and dandelion, and it always tastes full enough to me and isn’t too cumbersome. (I’m a fucking freak and don’t filter it; sue me.)
Where did you get the tea?
Please don’t hate me:
Walmart.
Bettergoods tea.
I’m crippled, don’t have a car, and they do grocery deliveries.
Presumably there is fancier pantsier loose leaf tea, but this seemed like a decent (?) starting point.
I buy from Walmart. Who cares? Not all of Lemmy are perfectionist lifestyle dweebs. I avoid it when I can, I buy stuff when I can’t.
Do what you can and don’t hate yourself
Its like the one element of my life where I can’t escape hilariously evil capitalism.
Its not that I hate myself, its that I wake up every day furious to be living in this system.
I do give myself grace on things that I just actually cannot find a less evil alternative to, things I cannot go without, without that likely leading to my death.
I know you are trying and that’s important, but don’t take things too seriously, brother.
You’re a good person if you even think about trying to do the right thing. All roads lead to the heat death of the universe.
Enjoy the ride.
There are quite some tea shops that would deliver loose leaf tea. If you happen to be in Canada, I can recommend you at least 2 places. Teas in most grocery stores are generally of a lower grade just so they can keep prices low.
If you like it, then it’s a good cup of tea. I think that pretty much any reasonable quality tea, if prepared and enjoyed deliberately, is nice, and the act of making it with an infuser adds to the experience. I like loose leaf and that’s the only kind of tea I buy for myself, but I have to admit I got some really nice teas coming in teabags in restaurants. Coffee is somewhat different, good freshly roasted beans ground immediately before brewing is just not the same beverage that you get when you buy ground coffee.
if you are in the US (maybe Candada too?) I really like Harney and son’s tea.
I will poke around and see if I can find them anywhere nearby!
before you spend too much time looking, i use their online store, I don’t know if they are in physical stores anywhere, I’ve never seen it on shelves.
