i guess that this is the recommended solution. i try pbs out and see how i can improve from there. thanks for your input!

thx for that write up. seems i didnt understand you correctly the first time (english is not my native language). i already used all pci-slots with sata extensions and a nic. its just a mini atx board with a n100 cpu, so my options are limited. i could mirror the disk to a sata ssd though.
i need to look into duplicati. never heard of it before. i guess best thing noe is to install pbs and look from there. my goal would be to have one copy of my data on site and one in another place.
so two pbs would be overkill?
My Mainboard only supports a single nvme-drive. thats why i store the os and the data of my vm/lxc on it. everything else are good old hdd. is it possible to restore this drive, if i install pbs as a lxc on this very drive?
sorry, i tried to read through some guids already and the more i read the more im confused /(
while the machines are physicaly next to esch other i also runy whole home automation over zwave. the reason i have 2 machines currently is that the media server used to run truenas and i virtualized everything there. since truenas deprecated its public build repository i wanted to replace it with open media vault, but since i dont really used shares i figured that proxmox would be better suited. so i set up a machine where i host all the services until i figure out how i want to run my media-server.
i still need to find a way to setup a simple sambashare via a web gui and a good backup solution.
How does it work if my ssd dies, where proxmox boot and the lvm for the containers is located on? Would i have to reinstall proxmox + pbs again and then id be able to restore the disk again? or do i habe to install pbs on another drive altogether and then id be able to restore my boot drive + lvm?
the machines are located next to each other and i run 2 currently because 1 was originally a truenas server and the other one a proxmox-server with my services. Since truenas stopped publishing its open source code to github i reinstalled it with proxmox. im also just started setting everything up and i wanted to have my services running while i figure out how i want to run my media server. originally i tried open media vault instead of truenas, but since i virtualize stuff like jellyfin anyways i thought that running that directly in proxmox is easier.
if that n100 cpu can run everything i need on the media server, i want to move the containers over. otherwise the two n100 machines stay.

i bought a intel n100 board with used 4gb of ram and an used ssd. then i bought 1 nic with poe for the wan (5g antenna with integrated modem) and second nic for a dmz.
also i tried opnsense but switched to ipfire, because it offers all i need in a much simpler package.
cost was arround 300€. tbh i would just buy a simple mini pc with enough nics, but couldnt find one with poe to a good price.

i mean it still sucks compared to reselling, but its possible to share your library on steam with friends at least.
best store would be gog but as a gamer on linux its not as easy as it should be.

im not an american too and may be wrong but the POTUS is the highest commander of the military.

to be fair its a chinese brand from amazon. https://amzn.eu/d/01p8j1cL
but it worked with win 10 on my hp notebook from work and its still working with my other devices including a phone. i dont own another win 11 device to test it with. since its not my own device im also not that keen to troubleshoot it.

yes i know all that.
no the ports work just fine with other devices. also my device isnt the only one in the company that has some issues with certain devices after the upgrade.

yeah, tell that win 11 because theres no driver missing, everything is up to date but the only thing my docking station does is power delivery.

true. but its a chicken egg problem. no users. no software. no software. no users.

yes. thats why it isnt priced as one, but still gets compared to a console because it wants to compete with thwm in the living room.
soo fun story regarding drivers. my notebook from work doesnt support my docking station at home anymore after a upgrade to win 11 from 10. My linux pc works just fine. its a tablet though and has some unsupported hardware like gyro sensors.
but thats not the point. the point is, that valve still updates its distro for the steamdeck and keeps improving it years after the launch.i expect the same for the SM. compare that to the asus ally: 1 year after release and asus dropped its support if i remember correctly.

yes. softwaresupport is a feature in every pc but not for consoles. this thing dies once its hardware dies or is so outdated you couldnt run a game anymore.
a ps5 dies once the newer console releases, because there are no games coming anymore.
but yes. i hoped that it would be more than that, but it seems like valve hoped for more too.

what about devices that dont run on ios/android like ubuntu touch or sailfish os?

you wouldnt play most of these games on a htpc though if you have to compete with keyboard and mouse on a controller. also its still possible to install windows on it, if its such a problem.
that being said the price for the performance is still too high and i wouldnt recommend it to nom tech people. (i commented before comparing the specs to the ps5 pro)

I compared it to the yearly plan that showed up first. i was honestly not aware that there are different subscription tiers. when i used ps+ with the ps4 there was only one + as far as i know.
the power of the machine is dissapointing and i commented before comparing the ps5+ specs with the SM.
on the other side could it be a ok device if you want that formfactor, long softwaresupport and still have a pc that can be used for more than just playing games or watching tv. Especially if youre not into AAA-gaming and more into Indie or Emulators. There you‘ll get a bigger Library than from a regular Console.
the price is also arround 7% more if you choose the SM over a comparable DIY according to gamers nexus so it seems fair i guess?
that being said i think the current SM is more a niche product and not for the masses.
