Thanks. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get it working, so I reinstalled Windows. It kept freezing at install then when trying to log in. But I’m going to try again when I have some time off.

THANK YOU! I will check them out.
I have been a Windows user since I started using computers in the 90s and wow has been my biggest hesitation. But with all the stuff Microsoft is doing with AI, ads, and data, it’s the first time I’ve considered and started actively looking into switching to Linux. There are so many instructions and things I don’t understand, but it’s nice to have something recommended by someone who used it. So again, thank you!!!

I think I used a bit too much Italian seasoning, it reminded me more of a pork sausage than a beef sausage. It was a little gamey, but I prefer meat that way.

No, I am not. I found it at a local meat store that sells all kinds of frozen foods and meats. They have bison, antelope, crocodile, etc, but yak was the only on there I had not tried.
I ate it last night. It was pretty good, but I think I messed up the recipe because the meatballs were a little dry.

Yeah, I’ve started reading the guides on how to install it. Wow is the one thing that has really given me pause, the only thing really. But Windows is getting so frustrating that I am actually making myself comfortable with Linux so I can switch.
Do you have any guides specific you would recommend?

Oh I know, I’ve been looking into it recently. I remember days when gaming was the sole reason for not switching to Linux, but I’m also aware that it’s improved a lot since then.
I’m sure I can get it working, but I don’t feel comfortable switching completely until I’ve played with Linux a bit, which is exactly what I’ve started doing. I’ve started backing up documents and files onto separate hard drives so I can prepare to switch, I’m just not quite ready yet.

I haven’t made the switch off of Windows, but I have started dabbling in Linux. I am ok with tech, better than the average person, but I don’t know anything about programming or coding or any of it. I have a Raspberry Pi, some other electronic stuff, and a book that is project based teaching of python. I’ve spent the last month or so reading up on self hosting, Linux, and other open source stuff.
My biggest hesitation is World of Warcraft. It’s the only game I play, it’s the only game I’ve ever really played, and I don’t want to lose access to that. I have started looking into how wow is run on Linux. But I’m not ready to fully switch yet.

Fusilli, with homemade pasta sauce from tomatoes I grew over the summer, topped with yak meatballs.
This is actually what I plan on making for dinner 😁
Thanks. I’ll check it out
My journey here took a while. I was on the standard Reddit app for a while, then they started promoting that “He Gets Us” bullshit ad. I blocked the account and it was gone for a while, then it showed up again. I had been dabbling with the Apollo app and I switched to that to avoid those stupid ads. Then the API stuff happened, I logged off and never logged back on again.
I went to Threads for a bit, which was nice because I had IRL friends there. Then Meta changed the community rules where calling trans folks mentally ill and bullying LGBTQ+ folks wasn’t considered inappropriate. So I logged off and didn’t log back on until I deleted my account in January 2024.
I joined Mastadon, which is nice, but it’s not easy for a newer, not quite techy user to figure things out. I figured it out, but I get why some folks find it confusing.
Then I joined BlueSky and hung out there for a bit. I still do because I like to follow specific reporters and organizations. But I soon realized, I don’t really like the short form formatting, so I joined Lemmy, then swapped to piefed recently.
Since then, I’ve been hanging out here for actual discussions and on BlueSky for breaking news and info.

100% agree and its like you took the thoughts out of my brain. The people I know who watch short form videos a lot have no attention span or patience. I agree that lack of reading, and IMO streaming services like Netflix, also contribute to this.
I’m very happy/lucky that my city has a pretty good reading community and lots of indie bookstores. I’ve become a lot more vocal about reading and books when I talk to people offline, even though most don’t read. I just want to encourage others to read, a lot of the nerdy shirts I used to wear have turned into indie bookstore shirts so I can advertise. I talk about my local libraries, again I’m lucky to have 4 branches I can access: 1 county and 3 city circulations. I encourage people to use the library for printing (it’s cheaper than that big corpo store you use and the money stays in your community), borrow books or movies, use digital services, and different book sales and musical events.
If I can’t do much in the big picture, I’ll at least promote as much as I can to help people I have direct contact with.

I’m the opposite, light mode hurts my eyes so I change to dark mode everywhere. I also love bright lights and open windows, I still have to use dark mode because the bright light backgrounds give me headaches.

I don’t get TikTok or short form videos. They are mostly nonsense that just shortens the attention span of viewers. Or the trends and dumb challenges, like why does everyone just repeat the same thing as everyone else? Is it just to “be cool”? Because it’s not cool, it’s dumb, you just look like a stooge or a sheep. Or the ones where people mouth the words and put some movie line audio over it? Like wtf is that? It’s all so mind numbingly dumb!
Also, I don’t understand a lot of the music kids listen to these days. It started when I first heard dubstep, it’s progressed to a lot of the stuff that gets popular. Just give me some good old punk rock or 90s punk/pop-punk and I’ll be happy.

I noticed this when I was out for a walk one day and a couple of high schoolers passed by. I had to do a double take because they legit dressed like me and my friends back in high school…almost 25 years ago 😑

I didn’t catch that it was a joke, I thought it was a misunderstanding or person legit thought it was a typo, but I also don’t think it deserved downvotes.

Not quite a joke, but I quote It’s Always Sunny pretty often. I love the show, but my partner has never watched it, so he never gets those quotes. There are even times when he says something from the show and I laugh, then have to explain that he would understand if he watched the show.
He still won’t watch it 😑
I used to play violin a long time ago and I could probably still play May Had a Little Lamb or Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. I wasn’t great, but I was pretty good and it was fun.
I’ve kind of wanted to pick up an instrument again, but my attention span is pretty crappy.
