      I only have libretube on my phone so YouTube links just open in libretube instead which I believe should address the surveillance aspect

          Doesn’t libretube use a piped instance as a proxy by default so our IP isn’t revealed to YT? I guess you could also run a VPN in the background

              they work if you don’t use them too much can tolerate a bit of downtime here and there.

              i recommend libredirect and finding multiple good ones, so it deals with that for you.

                  yes, kind of. they are a proxy that takes them stream from google and streams it back to you from a lightweight frontend.

                  it’s like invidious instances for youtube (nadeko, catsarch, etc)

                  redlib instances for reddit, nitter for twitter (xcancel), imginn for instagram and more.

                  you will often see a bot posting links to them in my instance’s comms when people post links to youtube and such.

                  libredirect is a browser extension that manages them.
