This is what the bible promotes. But to be fair it also promotes a lot of things that are less palatable, like stoning you to death for wearing clothes of two different fabrics.
However, Christianity in the US has largely (not entirely) been overtaken by the “prosperity gospel” where if you’re rich and healthy, that means you’re a good person because God provided for you and if you’re poor or sick, well, God must not love you, therefore bad person.
Also the bible has so many contradictions in it that you can basically put out whatever message you want by cherry picking passages. No idea if that’s by design or not.
