The modern right galvanized on deregulation, abortion, undoing “entitlements,” and civil rights advances in the 70s-80s and showed up consistently since then at local, state and federal elections in pursuit of that. Leftists show up if they like someone and won’t if they don’t. Or at least this is my observation from living in red vs blue areas. I will concede with you though that not having funding is a relative weakness of ours and has also played a role in shaping our current environment.
