Grindr usage spikes during ANY major event like those. You could have a Lesbian (is Grindr just for men? I’m assuming it is else my example is not really working) conference and the usage would spike. It’s just the population of the city increasing due to the event. There are journalist, and countless people flying in that are their to support the event infrastructure that don’t actually belong to that events “group”. And, ya know, literally people driving/flying into the city, and staying in the city, to protest the event.
Sorry. I’m being autistic. There are definitely gay Republicans on Grindr. But it’s not really a useful statistic looked at in a vacuum.
You would assume there are less gay republicans than gay democrats given their policies, yet republican conventions spike Grindr as much as normal conventions. That in itself is telling.
Again, unless you have more statistics that’s not telling you anything about the demographic of the Republican convention on its own. It’s making the assumption that all conventions bring the same crowds by percentage. Republican conventions bring a uniquely larger crowd in the form of protests. Much larger than a Democrat convention (well, before the genocide).
Also, major cities have multiple conventions and events every weekend. Likely enough that the population related to any given Republican convention would likely only be a fraction of the total. Even for events as large as their Major ones like CPAC, etc.
I know many LGBTQ organizations align their events WITH the Republican conventions to bring in more support for protest.
So, again, there is just not enough statistics on it to conclude anything. Sorry, this really doesn’t matter. Republicans are still hypocrites and assholes. But my math autism just hates bad conclusions from insufficient statistics.
I didn’t consider the protests and counter events when thinking of the demographic spike with republican events. You are right, there are too many factors to consider before reaching a simple conclusion.
Thank you for reading my pointless rant. Always satisfying when I actually get my point across and am not just misunderstood.
Republicans aren’t really worth defending. I think I care because the “every Republican is actually gay” is kinda homophobic in a sense. I’d say the relationship with pedophilia and Republicans is significantly less circumstancial though. But that’s a rant for another time.
