This mainly true in the Middle East because people there are born and raised into believing that their ethnicity and religion are superior to everyone else’s and that it is a shameful embarrassment to make ANY concessions whatsoever with people deemed to be inferior.
Americans are generally ignorant, but they’re still largely liberal. While there are bigots who this applies to, the vast majority of Americans broadly agree with liberal principles like freedom of speech, individualism, equal opportunity, universal rule of law, tolerance, and secularization… none of this is popular in the Middle East.
Middle Eastern politics is so extreme and ridiculous that it deserves it’s own scale. It’s hard for people in the West to comprehend how different it is over there. It’s the only region in the world where countries deescalate by bombing each other. Where things like liberty and secularism are openly rejected by the populace. Where people and governments alike openly support, cheer on, and commit things like genocides, ethnic cleansing campaigns, targeted oppression.
My home country of Iraq nearly passed a law a few months ago that would’ve legalized marrying 9 year old girls. The Armenian prime minister a few days ago publicly offered to show his penis to the head of the Armenian orthodox church to prove to the Armenian people that he’s not a muslim. Azerbaijan has built public parks where they intentionally try to humiliate dead Armenian soldiers and they even have racist wax figures depicting Armenians as ugly and with big hooked noses (example). Saudi Arabia executed a man in 2011 for witchcraft. Israel and Turkey are both openly committing genocide. The Middle East is just built different.

I lived there, I’ve seen this shit first hand.
To be honest, all of this applies to the US.

I thought they were describing the US. Had to re-read the first bit.
