I suppose it does make it more difficult, but very few things are as black and white as “people only care because they want to play porn games”. There’s usually some nuance in there.

And who knows, this whole situation happened because a tiny group pressured companies into acting a certain way. So it’s not like putting pressure on them has no effect. May as well try.

Right. Most of us don’t care about the porn, which is why we’re not arguing for it. Most of us just don’t like credit card companies being allowed to dictate what we do and don’t buy.

Plus, I’m guessing anybody with an incest fetish probably understands that isn’t something to go shouting to the world if they want their position to be taken seriously.

  • Its worth noting that most of these people were indoctrinated into their beliefs since they were born, and many of them attend church weekly to reaffirm their beliefs. They were raised surrounded by christians, were told christianity is true, and think that if you question god you will be consciously tortured for eternity. They’re not just a bunch of idiots.

  • Are you conflating the stock market with god? The stock market is not a “thing” in the same way that math is not a “thing”. God, or at the very least the christian god, is an actual being that supposedly exists and wants everyone to know it.

    They’re not even remotely similar.

Edit: also, you know, we can actually interact with the stock market.

  • This is an interesting argument. I don’t think the two are completely analogous, and the whole thing falls apart once you go beyond consumer level usage due to piracy’s inability to make new things like AI can. While piracy isn’t going to get any game developers or musicians fired, AI image gen very likely will. The more it improves, the harder it will be for companies to continue justifying paying real artists.

That said, you do make a good point that many pro-piracy arguments can be used all the same to be pro-AI image gen. At least at the individual consumer level.

  • the government saying we can make you safer by limiting your behavior is just tyranny

I know, right? That’s why I should be allowed to wildly swing a machete around public spaces. Because limiting my ability to do so is tyranny!!! And kids should be able to bring grenades to school because we wouldn’t want to impede on their rights! Fucking /s if you couldn’t figure that out.

And your entire gun analogy makes zero sense. Regardless of anybody’s opinion on gun control laws, it is true that you will be able to better defend yourself against a bad guy with a gun if you also have a gun. But driving while you’re drunk will not make you any safer when the guy in front of you is also drunk. The two subjects are nothing alike.

  • I’m sure I’ve also seen some news articles you haven’t, its kinda hard to keep up with literally every single piece of news, especially something as inconsequential as that.

Hell, I had never even heard of the term 86 before today, and I know I’m not the only one in the comments that hadn’t.
