I’m not in IT, just a lowly office grunt who is forced to use Windows on their laptop. I know most people here have forgotten that 99% of the working world has to use Windows, so let me remind you how much it sucks.

It doesn’t matter how you change the laptop power settings, Windows will look at your settings and then just do whatever the fuck it wants when the lid closes.

Sometimes it goes to sleep

Sometimes it stays powered on and quietly overheats in your laptop bag.

Sometimes it completely freezes up and forces you to hold down the power button.

Sometimes it just logs you out and does nothing else.

Sometimes it will go to sleep, but the moment you open it back up it decides what you REALLY wanted was to restart.

Changing the settings has no effect on what Windows decides to do.

I know people on this site like to sit on their gilded Linux throne and sneer at all the lowly peons forced to use “Microslop” instead of their clearly superior, self-hosted, FOSS, Linux distro; but it is a real problem with Windows laptops.

Listen to me very closely: Nobody gives a single flying fuck about your mission statement. Turning away more qualified candidates because you didn’t feel they were as interested in the company culture as others makes you a shitty hiring manager. Nobody gives a shit about the company culture. Every employee with two brain cells knows it’s about money, period. When times get hard, the company will not care how much you mesh with the culture, they will drop you like a hot turd if you aren’t producing enough or are costing them money. So why pretend anything else matters?

If you do anything OTHER than ignore them, your number gets marked as “active” and then sold to other scammers. I roll my eyes at the people who gleefully brag about all the ways they “fuck with spammers” without realizing that by simply answering the phone, they have already given them what they want. Sure, the low level worker on the phone (who might actually be a slave) might want you to fall for a scam and give them money, but the people running these call centers are perfectly fine if all they get is confirmation that you have an active number which can then be sold to other call centers.

Ok, but that article doesn’t actually say anything different? She’s donating to organizations that are pushing against legislation that say trans women are the same as biological women. They aren’t saying trans people shouldn’t exist or shouldn’t have healthcare. Or am I missing something? Again, still shitty, and it doesn’t change my opinion of her either way, but am I crazy to think that’s not exactly the same as trans erasure?
