…and the I love the prospect of a DS9 crossover with Animal Crossing like Damar loves day drinking.

“You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
“What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him.

It’s simple and early, but I love this bit from the Ed Sullivan show back in 1967.

Hoggle is my example of why most CGI characters in live-action movies are unnecessary. Hoggle is an incredible feat of puppetry combined with the performance of the actor inside the suit, and if that can be accomplished in 1986, then don’t tell me that a practical character can’t be done today.

L3-37 from Solo is a great example of how to merge practical with CGI. You get the actors real performance, the human actors on set get something real to interact with, and then CGI can fill in some of the gaps and do the things that physically can’t be done in reality.

I got her autograph at Dragon Con and she said that they paid her garbage for that gig, but that she loved hanging out with David Bowie.
People didn’t move to America for the freedom to practice any religion, they moved here for the freedom to practice what they believe was _the correct religion.
Well…
Article 3. [Freedom in religion; right and duty of religious worship]
That all persons have a natural and unalienable right, to worship Almighty God, according to the dictates of their own consciences and understandings, as in their opinion shall be regulated by the word of God; and that no person ought to, or of right can be compelled to attend any religious worship, or erect or support any place of worship, or maintain any minister, contrary to the dictates of conscience, nor can any person be justly deprived or abridged of any civil right as a citizen, on account of religious sentiments, or peculia[r] mode of religious worship; and that no authority can, or ought to be vested in, or assumed by, any power whatever, that shall in any case interfere with, or in any manner control the rights of conscience, in the free exercise of religious worship. Nevertheless, every sect or denomination of christians ought to observe the sabbath or Lord’s day, and keep up some sort of religious worship, which to them shall seem most agreeable to the revealed will of God.
State of Vermont Constitution, 1793.
I really wish we could have got that “attend, erect, or support” clause in the US Constitution!
I hate that this is so plausible a scenario. I’d love to be proven wrong, I’d love to see a wave of stronger-left candidates elected in primaries and then to office, and I’d love if the party in general could see what an existential threat the current situation poses, whether one is talking about the level you’re talking about or merely forever losing any credibility with their own base assuming some vaguely normal political situation continues from where we are now.
We’re over the precipice of the collapse of the American experiment in democracy. It’s not impossible to drag us back, but it’ll take something heroic to get it done. The alternative is a long plunge down to some very sharp rocks.

New York City has a population greater than all but twelve states. It’s like if the governor of Virginia were a wildly popular national figure and started endorsing primary candidates.

TLDR: Whites in some parts of America drained public pools rather than integrate them. They should rather no one have a public pool than have to share it with black people.

My understanding is that it’s more like sucking a dick than like getting your dick sucked.

The grapefruit reference is accurate. I’d describe it as floor varnish thinner mixed with hyper-concentrated grapefruit rind. The interesting thing is the way it doesn’t actually smell that bad, but then it starts terrible and gets worse after a few seconds. I’m convinced there’s some interesting chemistry going on in there where it degrades into other chemicals as it oxidizes in your mouth.
The only remotely comparable flavor I’ve ever had is…

…Unicum, which tastes like a cedar chest smells, and I was more than a little afraid would make me go blind.
0/10 for both, would absolutely recommend if you want someone to establish a baseline for “absolute worst-tasting thing ever deliberately consumed that is technically meant to be consumed.”
Hey, it’s not just an Italian symbol!

Try to live your life in such a way that you don’t create a human being with a large portion of their personality shaped by how much they don’t like you.
Q: Why don’t you ever hear a pterodactyl go to the bathroom?
A: Because the P is silent.
“This house is less likely to shoot back than the house we were actually called to.”
